of Laura, who, thanks to her openness to new experiences, discovered her place in the IT world. At first, she felt alien and uncertain in this environment, but now she is successfully fulfilling herself as an IT Service Desk Specialist at International Paper.
It turns out, however, that it is not chance that governs our “career” fate, but we ourselves. Find out how participating in the Talent Days job fair can change your life!
TALENT DAYS: Hi Laura! Before you tell us how to quickly and effectively find your career path, we'd like to get to know you a little better.
LAURA: I am 26 years old and I come from a small village near Tarnów. I studied English at the Pedagogical University of Krakow.
TALENT DAYS: At International Paper, you are an IT Service Desk Specialist. We are curious about where the idea of starting a career in IT came from, especially after graduating in English Philology. How did this whole adventure begin and what led you to your current place in your professional life?
LAURA: My entire adventure related to working in the IT industry was actually a coincidence. It all started with my presence at a job fair, where I accompanied my friend. It was thanks to her that I learned about Talent Days, which opened the door to new opportunities for me. I didn't have a specific direction in mind and I was open to all new experiences. At the fair, I had the opportunity to meet Ania, who is a leader at International Paper. She then described the duties related to my current position in detail. I had some doubts whether I would cope, because I had no previous experience related to IT. However, Ania quickly dispelled my fears. This position was the first one I applied for at a job fair and, to be honest, I don't regret that decision!
TALENT DAYS: Wow, it was indeed an extraordinary coincidence that you found your career #PerfectMatch at your first employer's stand. You say you don't regret that decision. And what exactly do you do as an IT Service Desk Specialist?
LAURA: This job doesn't let me get bored, seriously! My job is to answer phone calls from people both inside and outside the company. I listen to their reports regarding software, systems and computer hardware. I am usually able to provide support and solve current IT-related problems myself. If a situation arises that I cannot solve remotely, I forward the report to ensure quick assistance.
TALENT DAYS: So you are the person everyone turns to when the projector, for example, is failing – they are always a problem! And what are the toughest challenges in your daily work?
LAURA: There are many systems that I don't have daily contact with - which can be demanding, but the company provides us with access to a huge knowledge base. This allows me to solve problems on the fly, even with the most complex programs.
TALENT DAYS: It's great that you can develop yourself and help others at the same time! Thanks for sharing your experiences and good luck on your career path!
Laura's story is a great example of how you can find a job in an industry that seems completely distant to you at first. Taking on new challenges increases your versatility and opens up more opportunities. You just have to have an open mind!
