WhatsApp and Messenger , two of the most used messaging services in Meta, have begun to implement changes to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), which came into force on March 6.

The DMA aims to preserve user privacy and security . It requires messaging services not to weaken the security provided to their own users, which means maintaining end-to-end encryption (E2EE) and uruguay number data other privacy guarantees to the extent possible. In addition to this, another of the main requirements, which directly affects these two Meta platforms, is interoperability .

What measures will Meta take?
Meta's tweaks are primarily aimed at enabling interoperability with third-party messaging services. This means that users of third-party providers will be allowed to send and receive messages via WhatsApp and Messenger , facilitating greater connectivity between different messaging services.

When a platform, such as WhatsApp or Messenger, enables interoperability with third-party messaging services, it is allowing users of other messaging apps, which meet certain security requirements and standards , to interact with its own users.
